BALLET

Classes available for the 3-16+yrs Classes in Ballet start at the age of 3yrs. With our specialised classes that go on until the age of 5yrs (please go to the 3-5yr olds section for more info). At 4 ½ yrs of age they move onto the Pre-Primary Class that prepares them for the exam Classes ahead. The children have at this point gained a basic technique, which we reinforce in a more structured environment. Fun is had by all with dress-up / picture books / Dancing with Ribbons and more at the beginning and end of each session. The Children also prepare something during the term to show parents during Watching week. (See below for more details on watching week) Exams start from the age of 6yrs with Primary and goes through to Grade 6 and beyond. Once children reach this point their training starts in earnest. Due to the great syllabus provided by the I.S.T.D and the Fun atmosphere maintained in class this remains fun with the fulfilment Of reaching the first standards required to take the First Exam.

As the students progress through the Grades Strength and knowledge Of this challenging discipline is developed, in a relaxed and nurturing Atmosphere. Along with Ballets own unique language based on French Which is applied to all the steps they learn. Children will also learn about the music used in Class, and will learn a catalogue of steps that will be used in free work in the exams. We spend a third of each class learning these individual steps and how they may Be put together, this requires the children to develop a quickness of mind. This is a great element of Ballet and one that the Children enjoy the most.

Girls once reaching Grade IV Ballet and the required strength, begin Point work. This is started slowly and with care to ensure a careful building Of strength and technique. Students on reaching this level really begin to Appreciate the joy of their chosen discipline.

Ballet is a special discipline, giving any Child great poise and grace.

All exams are taken with the I.S.T.D. I.S.T.D Exams Grades 1 to 3 gives a GCSE grade C-F. Grades 4-6 gives a GCSE grade A-C The grades above this attribute an A Level once complete.

Exams are not compulsory the choice lies with parent and child, however they are encouraged as they develop a sense of achievement.

Watching Week at the end of each term the parents are invited into the Classroom To watch the last class. Cameras are permitted and the Children enjoy showing Parents their achievements of the Term. A great way to finish off the Term.
