FUN EXTRAS
As well as all our Timetabled Classes and activities we have a range of one off's that go on during the year. You will find below a list of these activities and what they entail. Theatre Group is by far the Favourite (see further down for details)

An activities notice goes on the notice board at the studio and On the end of term newsletter, that is also displayed on the Coming soon and news page on this website, giving details Of the activities going on that term, for which age group the activity Is appropriate, stating all dates and a rough outline of what is going to be covered.

All these Fun Extras are open to all TDA Students already taking 1 Dance Class a week. A notice goes on the board 2 weeks before the activity is due to take place. All you have to do is place your Child's name on the list then turn up and enjoy the fun.

MAKE-UP

We cover a variety of areas during this activity. For the older Students we outline and refine basic make-up needed, how to apply it, what they can do to improve the look specifically for them and then remove the make-up without too much stress on the skin.

For the younger Students we have face painting sessions and Also instruction on basic rules of applying make-up, the reasons why it is essential for stage work, and after with the help of some of my Seniors applying make up to the Girls which of course is the highlight.

Sometimes we cover specialised make-up appropriate to Projects that we are working on with the Theatre Group, Jazz Class And Musical Theatre Course.

OPEN JAZZ CLASS

This is when I offer the opportunity to attend a specially timetabled Jazz Class to all TDA students regardless of the Discipline that they Are taking.

They will take part in a Typical Jazz Class that takes place at TDA And as usual at the end of Class the children will get to learn a Routine to a resent and up to date song.

CHOREOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION

This is for the older Students with a number of years of training Under their belts.

We start the session by choosing together a piece of music That they will be working to. We then discuss the style of dance To be used and then after splitting into groups work begins. Throughout the session I monitor their progress, offer advise About phrasing with the music or perhaps the linking of steps. The beauty of Choreography is its never wrong.

This can be very rewarding to see the Students be creative And is a great confidence building activity.

OPEN PRE-SYLLABUS FUN CLASS

All children between the age of 4-5yrs are invited to come along And take part in 1 of the fortnightly Pre Syllabus Fun Classes. Some Children find doing 2 Classes a week too much, this Opportunity gives them the chance to experience the fun that is The Fun Class without having to commit to a Terms worth of Classes.

DRAMA CLASS

Open to all students from the age of 7yrs. This Class includes a differing variety of the following elements.

Games and fun designed to break the ice and develop a variety of skills including, speech, voice projection, concentration, memory and the Children's powers of observation. We also do exercises for breathing, voice control and warm Ups for the vocal chords etc. We also sometimes include a movement section not always Dance based.

The Children enjoy most the improvisations that we usually do at the close of Class. This is when they split into groups and act out a situation either in mime or acting. Some of the older Students may using a script produce a small Drama piece.

THEATRE GROUP

This activity is open to all Children already attending a Dance Class at TDA and in Pre-Primary Standard and above.

Theatre group meets twice every term on a Saturday for a 4 hour session, and has proved extremely popular. We are lucky enough that the facility we use for classes has a small stage, which we use to the full for this activity. The children get to spend the 4 hours on the stage preparing and perfecting Their work.

The children attend this activity in Logo Trackies, jeans and T-Shirts And Dance shoes or sensible trainers. They bring a packed lunch and we have the tuck shop open, fun is had by all. At the end of the session the children perform what they have been working on for the parents, who may come armed with cameras to capture the moment should they wish

This activity gives all Dance Academy Students a brief Musical Theatre experience. Although dance is the main factor for this already experienced group we incorporate singing and stage performance skills making it an all round event. This is always a diverse group with Children ranging from 5 to 16yrs, and From all the disciplines on offer at TDA. It is really rewarding to see the Children come together for the day, working as a team and producing some really great performances.

Children that attend more than 2 sessions over the first 2 terms of the year are invited to attend extra rehearsals at a minimum cost, they then go onto perform at local venues and at our Show or Prize giving during the Summer Term.

The items that we have done with the Theatre Group so far are Barnum, Oliver, Mary Poppins, Bugsy Malone, Annie, Witches of Mac Beth, Cats and High School Musical.

Want to join in with the fun keep your eye open for the activities notice that goes up on the notice board at the studio at the beginning of each term, it is also on the end of term Newsletter. (Which is also displayed on the coming soon and news page of this website) It will list when the Theatre Group will meet that term and what we will be doing. Two weeks before the group is due to meet a notice goes on the board where you can sign up your ChildŐs name.

Remember this activity is open to all TDA students IN PRE-PRIMARY AND ABOVE.

If you are interested in this activity but are not a member of the TDA then see our Musical Theatre Course which is open to all.
