Jazz starts at 7yrs and up for those children already doing 1 modern Class a week Jazz is a fun extension of the Modern Dance Discipline. And really stretches the boundaries, challenging the students Developing their performance and dance skills as well as being fun. Several styles are covered through out the year, however Street Dance appears to be the most popular at the moment. A basic Modern Dance Ability is necessary to be successful In this Class, therefore being a member of a modern Class is necessary. A variety of things go on during our Jazz Class. A warm-up starts us off. Stretching and strengthening exercises on the floor that involves partner Work. The fun element of corner work then begins building slowly, covering Turning, leaping, kicking and travelling steps. The end section of the class is dedicated to developing a routine to a specific Style. Even though at present we seem to be concentrating on Street Dance This comes in different styles and is portrayed in different ways depending On the music.

Our Jazz class is a performance based class as well as working on the building of strength, confidence and the ability to master varying styles. The class each term work towards a performance, however I must stress taking part in the performance is not compulsory and children not intending on performing will still be included in all dances.

The Performance jazz class performs around the area during the summer term at our biannual show, prize giving and showcases; and sometimes combined with the Musical Theatre Course and/or Theatre group on our full time production numbers.

All music for this discipline is free and the latest chart music is used, Which is most appealing to the youngsters.

Jazz builds confidence and strength, giving anybody taking part a more Rounded training.

This at present is an Exam free zone.
