MODERN

Classes available for 4 ½ yrs to 16+ yrs. Modern is a fun and fast moving discipline, which compliments Ballet and Tap very well, it also opens the door to Jazz, which broadens the horizons of any dancer. (See the Jazz Section for more details) Modern starts at the age of 4 ½ yrs those having made the move from tot to pre-primary ballet have the opportunity to attend the Friday Grade 1 Modern class on a fortnightly basis. At the age of 4 ½ yrs children may choose Modern as their main discipline and exam work begins. This Grade 1 class for the 4 ½ years- 7 yr olds is a well-structured Class developing the basic techniques which follows through all the Grades. It has a great fun element allowing the children to express themselves And contribute to the Class. Modern is a fun and light-hearted discipline and Suits a child with bags of energy and / or a bubbly personality.

As the children go up through the Grades they build strength, flexibility And confidence. The syllabus is great fun, fast moving and has a large Range of dance qualities. As the children progress they will learn arm and foot positions, individual Dance moves that can be combined to make small dance routines. A rhythm section is covered in each Grade building as they progress Giving the students a good knowledge of music and its qualities. For the older student this discipline affords a breath and depth, which Is very rewarding and allows students to be creative.

As for Ballet, exams are undertaken from the age of 6yrs. With Grade I thru to Grade 6 and beyond.

All exams are taken with the I.S.T.D. I.S.T.D Exams Grades 1 to 3 gives a GCSE grade C-F. Grades 4-6 gives a GCSE grade A-C The grades above this attribute an A Level once complete.

Exams are not compulsory the choice lies with parent and child, however they are encouraged as they develop a sense of achievement.

Watching Week at the end of each term the parents are invited into the Classroom To watch the last class. Cameras are permitted and the Children enjoy showing Parents their achievements of the Term. A great way to finish off the Term.
